When you are thinking of hiring a Calgary garage builder to build you a garage there are a few things to bear in mind, one of which is how long you are planning to stay in your house. A new garage can quite easily run to $20,000 but may only add, say, $15,000 to the resale value. So if you move out in a couple of years it will have cost you money. Of course you will have the use of the garage in the meantime so you may consider it worth it.
If you are looking at a garage for two cars you should think in terms or 22′ square. If you decide that you need a work bench and some storage down one side then add another couple of feet. You might also consider off-setting the garage door to one side; if you don’t do this you will have two narrow spaces down each side of the cars where you could have had a wider space down one side of the garage. Of course, depending on the size of your yard you could always add an extra couple of feet to the depth which would give additional space as well.
Make sure that you employ a garage contractor who will get all the necessary permits for you. A good Calgary garage builder will do this for you as a matter of course. The problem is that if you get the permits yourself and they are in your name and there is subsequently anything wrong the building inspector will hold you responsible for putting it right.
In the Calgary area there are several construction firms who build garages but one to consider is PLANiT Builders. This company specialises in just two things – basements and garages. They complete over 1,000 contracts every year and have built garages of all shapes and sizes so they have great expertise and a fine reputation to live up to.
